Here Be Dragons… A new RPG written by a friend of the League

HC 1
Every now and then I write an article on something other than painting.  Lately, I just need to write articles.  Anyway, a friend of the blog sent me an update on a funded Kickstarter, HC SVNT DRACONES.  That’s Latin for Here Be Dragons.  A reference to uncharted territory on maps and globes from the early 16th century.
Anyway, I got a link to the game over onDriveThruRPG, where it is sitting at the #6 hottest title:  http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/141683/Hc-Svnt-Dracones

I downloaded a copy to see that the game is all about.  The rulebook comes in just under 300 pages with beautiful full color artwork throughout, a sharp layout, and an attractive price. Right now you can pay whatever price you feel the book is worth.  I don’t have a ton of time to play RPGs lately, but I did take a look through the book.  Here’s what I’ve found:

Update: IA13 contains updated rules for Greater Daemons too!

ia13Forge World previewed the new Imperial Armour 13 on Monday and then tempted us with more details yesterday.
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff

However, it sounded like the book was Chaos Space Marine and Renegades only, so I sent off a quick email to FW.

Q: “Can you tell me if the new IA13 will have updated rules for the greater daemons too?”

A: “IA13 will include updated rules for all of our Chaos 40k models.”

My Airbrush Setup

I get questions regularly on what hardware I use in my airbrush setup.  Below I’ll show you what I use and some alternatives if you want to save a few bucks.  I’m linking to various vendors; however, I don’t get any payment for these items, so buy where you’re most convenient.

Neo

Air Brush – I have two, and I like the cheaper one better

  • Iwata HP-C Plus – this was my first brush.  It is better made than my Neo; however, I use the Neo day in and out for the reasons I will explain below.
  • Iwata Neo CN – I bought this brush locally on sale for about $40.  You can get it on Amazon for under $55, and close to $40 at Dick Blick right now..  This is a great brush that will take you from beginner to experienced intermediate and perhaps beyond.

Braiiiins! – A cooperative or competitive Zombie game.

brains

The guys at Fire Squadron are at it again.  Their awesome game, Black Market Warehouse, is in printing and they’ve launched Braiiiins! on Kickstarter.  With 7 days left to go they need your help.  You can back them here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/firesquadron/braiiiins

Having played the game as part of the play testing crew I can say that this is a great game and well worth the nominal investment.  If you like easy to play, but hard to master games or games that you can play 1 on 1 or in a larger setting (up to 6) then this is a game worth checking out.

Custom Herald of Slaanesh

I’m finding that my Tzeentch daemons have taken a large Nerf bat to the head.  While the masses are screaming about Malefic conjuration being OP and broken, I’m seeing that psychic powers in general have been relegated to a different role.  Witchfire is now supplemental, rather than a replacement for shooting attacks.  Anyways, I’m having to branch out of my comfort zone to find an army that is competitive for my next tournament.  I’m trying out a Slaanesh army with some Tzeentch support.  I’m planning on running 2 Slaaneshi heralds on foot and a third on a seeker.

Games Workshop Customer Service for the win

20140616-100658-36418900.jpg

I spent Father’s day enjoying myself and doing little of importance.  After How to Train Your Dragon 2 I was inspired to assemble three Beasts of Nurgle and a set of ten Plague Bearers.  My beasts are older metals kits, back when they came on 40mm bases.  Only 1 of them still was in the blister pack.  Anyway, out of all of them, the model in the blister was missing a piece, the small elbow.  A quick call to GW customer service this morning and I’m expecting a replacement piece in the mail in 8-10 days.

For all of the things I don’t like about the compnay, Games Workshop has always had top notch customer service.  It is the one thing that makes me willing to buy product and keep in on the shelf so that if/when I want it later I have it.  I know that as long as the product is current they will stand by the model and fix any problems.

Hobby Progress Update

mr-busy-web

Wow, it’s been a few months since I’ve been able to write an update.  My apologies.  My wife and I took a trip to the east coast, I finished out one job and then I changed jobs about 6 weeks ago.  The last two months have been a whirlwind.  I played about 5 games in all this time, 3 of which were a team tournament; more on that later.  I guess, then, it was unavoidable that I got sick last week.  Turns out it was a good stimulus for my hobbying.
